Bellingen

The Bellingen's base is turned from camphor laurel, an Australian hardwood sourced locally from the Bellingen Shire in New South Wales. It has a rich, honey-toned grain and a crisp camphor scent, and is finished in a natural hard wax oil that is water-repellent and dirt-resistant. Because the timber is natural, every base is unique in colour and grain.

Yes. Camphor laurel is an invasive species in northern New South Wales, where it crowds out native growth and is often felled and left to be burnt. NEOZ works with local communities to collect these trees before they are lost, and the timber is prepared and turned by a local woodworker, so each lamp makes use of wood that would otherwise have been cleared.

The Bellingen is offered with five shades: two handmade cotton shades for a soft, largely downward light, and three hand-blown glass shades, in green, amber and frosted, whose gently pleated glass scatters a warm, candlelit glow. Shades are interchangeable and available separately, so the look can be changed over time.

The Bellingen carries an IP30 rating, and its oiled timber finish resists spills and everyday moisture, which makes it well suited to indoor use and to covered outdoor settings such as sheltered terraces and alfresco dining. It is not intended for fully exposed positions in the weather.

Wipe the base with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth as needed. The natural hard wax oil finish is water-repellent and stands up well to common spills such as wine, coffee, tea and juice. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, which can dull the finish.

A full charge takes around 3.5 hours and gives up to 17.5 hours of light on high and around 55 hours on low, with brightness set by a touch of the base across three levels. Every major part is user replaceable, including the battery, light source and shade, and the Bellingen works with all NEOZ charging systems. It is also compatible with the Cordless Lamp Lock, which applies to lamps whose serial number begins with L, for example LA1234.
