Ritz brings the grand-hotel table lamp into cordless form. A solid base, hot forged from a single ingot of brass and polished to a deep lustre, is topped with a handmade shade in parchment or pleated silk. The light falls as a glare-free downlight with a soft wash to the side, flattering to faces, glassware and linen alike. Originally made for The Ritz London, it carries that room's quiet formality wherever it is set.

The Design Story

Made for The Ritz London

Ritz was originally made for The Ritz London, and it still carries the measured formality of that room. Designed in 2001 by NEOZ's Peter Ellis and Jackie Chan with Tessa Kennedy Associates, it translates the classic hotel table lamp into cordless form without losing any of its weight or presence. The base is hot forged from a single ingot of brass, CNC machined, polished to a deep lustre and lacquered to hold that finish through years of nightly service. Above it sits a handmade shade, either tailored parchment or, more recently, a pleated dupion silk shade hand-stitched by a single artisan in tapered square pleats. Both cast a glare-free downlight with a soft wash to the side, the quality of light that makes a dining room feel considered rather than merely lit. It is a lamp built for the kind of venue that notices such things.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Forged from a single ingot

Every Ritz base begins as a single ingot of raw brass, hot forged, CNC machined, then polished to a deep lustre and lacquered so the finish holds through years of handling. It is a substantial object at 1820g, and it feels it on the table. The shade is made entirely by hand: a tailored parchment or a pleated dupion silk version, hand-stitched by a single artisan into tapered square pleats and finished in a warm cream that suits almost any interior. Together they give a glare-free downlight over the place setting and a soft diffused glow to the side. Rated IP30, Ritz is made for interiors, from formal dining rooms to hotel lounges and private clubs. Inside sits the N1 Light Engine, a 93+ CRI LED in warm white at 2600K with an optional 1800K warm candle, dimmable across three levels. As with every NEOZ lamp, the battery, light source and shade are user replaceable.
