Venue Spotlight: Astra Rooftop Bar at voco Gosford

May 20, 2026James Perry

Rooftop venues ask more of lighting than most. During the day, the view carries the space. As evening settles in, the environment needs to hold its own atmosphere without competing with the skyline it sits within.

At Astra, the rooftop bar on Level 28 of voco Gosford in New South Wales, that transition is central to the experience. The space wraps around three sides of the building, with floor-to-ceiling windows that open to views across Gosford, Brisbane Water, and beyond. Inside, a striking green marble bar anchors the room, balanced by plush velvet seating, high tables and an entertainment space with a stage and dance floor. Part lounge, part Japanese-inspired dining destination, Astra is a space that moves through the day in distinct registers.

The NEOZ Victoria cordless lamp in Aged Brass with Green Glass was specified to support that movement.

A Lamp That Belongs to the Space

Victoria's material choices were not incidental to the specification. The aged brass finish adds warmth to the table setting, keeping with the interior's layered tones. The green glass picks up the colour of the marble bar without replicating it, adding depth at table level while leaving the view uninterrupted.

Rather than standing apart from Astra's palette, the lamp becomes part of its composition. That integration is what distinguishes a considered specification from a decorative afterthought.

Bringing the Experience to a Human Scale

A rooftop at this scale, with its glass envelope and skyline outlook, gives a venue its drama. What it cannot do on its own is make a dining table feel intimate. That is what the work table lighting does.

The Victoria creates a warm, contained glow at each setting, grounding the dining experience within an open, elevated environment. Guests can take in the view. The food, the drinks and the conversation in front of them remain the centre of attention.

As the venue shifts from sunset drinks to evening dining, the lamp supports that transition without announcing itself.

In Their Own Words

"We chose NEOZ for Astra because great lighting shapes the entire experience," says Björn Nöldner, General Manager at voco Gosford. "From our rooftop, guests feel it the moment they arrive. It is something we are genuinely proud of."
